Read about the tool to compile the packages: http://pkgbuild.sourceforge.net and especially the wiki: http://pkgbuild.wiki.sourceforge.net (mediawiki defunkt, need new wiki and transfer content, call for help!)

Read about the repository "SFE" or "spec-files-extra" created many years ago to enhance the packages not fitting into Solaris and its projekt to port GNOME to Solaris.
FInd the build recipes here: http://pkgbuild.sourceforge.net/spec-files-extra/

How to get help: Write to the Mailinglist you find on the projekt page http://pkgbuild.sourceforge.net OR go to the IRC chat channel on freenode.org: http://irc.freenode.org and choose channel #pkgbuild (note: hang around for at least *several* hours and just write your questions, please do not ask and wait if somebody is there, just write your question and hang around. You will get an answer immediatly or several hours later.

Update 20150104:
Important! Browse the SVN repository on the web interface and see if you can find your favourite packages there. If they aren't already in the autobuild lists, they can be added to the process and built automaticly for you.
Browse the SVN here and make sure to look as well into /encumbered/ and /experimental/ subdirectories: http://sourceforge.net/p/pkgbuild/code/HEAD/tree/spec-files-extra/trunk/

Update 20150108:
Please use the RSS feeds described here http://sfe.opencsw.org/rss-feeds-for-all, to get updates for articles, comments and even new IPS packages appearing on the repositories.
