Firefox? Experimental Firefox in SFE!

Update 2016-04-06: Attempt to get FF 45-ESR is currently postponed, currently without a date for resuming. I'll wait on the OS-Distro to update to 45-ESR and then try to get the ffmpeg version without gstreamer configured. Firefox is a horrible experience when porting.

Hey,

I was looking for getting back video play in firefox, since the vanish of flash there always has been the desire to get a replacement.

I decided to give firefox built in SFE a chance and started a merge from SUNWfirefox.spec from solaris desktop spec files and what OpenIndiana Hipster does for a firefox version 45.

The idea behind that is to get the firefox build close to what Solaris 11 has and on the other hand, get the integration of "ffmpeg" to play video. And all this while bypassing the "gstreamer" method to play video as it is currently necessary (and working fairely well in OpenIndiana Hipster).

So, with a little luck and a little bit spare time, we could get someting into experimental during the next week or so.

Stay tuned!

If you want to test-compile yourself, I could make the (still broken) spec files available in the spec-files-extra/experimental/ subdirectory of the SVN repository.

Questions? I'm sure you have some: Email me at sfepackages at g mail dot com
or leave a comment on the blog or go to the irc.freenode.org channel #pkgbuild (there is a webinterface and make sure to idle around for longer so we get a chance to talk to you).
